Eurozone’s consumer confidence improves more than forecast in December

The European Commission (EC) announced on Wednesday its flash estimate showed the consumer confidence indicator for the Eurozone climbed by 1.8 percentage points to -15.1 in December from an unrevised -16.9 in the previous month. That was the highest reading since July (-15.1).

Economists had predicted the index to increase to -16.4 early this month.

Considering the European Union (EU) as a whole, the consumer sentiment indicator jumped by 1.5 percentage points to -16 0 in December.

Despite this month’s increases, both indicators remained below their long-term averages.
