A
report from the Centre for Sociological Research (Centro de Investigaciones
Sociológicas, or CIS) revealed that consumer confidence in Spain improved
slightly at the beginning of 2024.
According
to the report, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) increased by 1.0 point (or +1.3 per
cent m-o-m) to 78.6 in January 2024 from 77.6 in December 2023. That was the
highest reading since July 2023 but remained below the 100-point threshold, indicating
pessimistic perceptions.
The
January gain in the headline index reflected a jump of 2.7 points (or +3.2 per
cent m-o-m) in the Expectations Index, the measure of consumers’ expectations,
to 87.9, that was partly offset by a decrease of 0.9 points (or -1.3 per cent
m-o-m) in the Current Situation Index, the indicator measuring consumer’s
assessments of the current situation, to 69.2.
