The State Council Tariff Commission announced that China will raise the tariffs on imported goods originating from the United States from 34% to 84% in response to the latest U.S. increase in the "reciprocal tariff" on Chinese goods, which took effect at the start of April 9.
"The US's practice of escalating tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake, which seriously infringes on China's legitimate rights and interests and seriously damages the rules-based multilateral trading system," the Commission stated.
The new tariffs will go into effect at 12:01 on April 10, 2025.
