China responds with 125% tariffs on U.S. imports, effective April 12

In a sharp escalation of trade tensions, China has announced a significant increase in tariffs on U.S. goods, raising the rate from 84% to 125%. The move, set to take effect on April 12, is a direct response to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a statement released by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council on Friday.

The statement emphasized the futility of continued tariff increases from the United States. “Even if the U.S. continues to impose higher tariffs, it will no longer make economic sense and will be remembered as a farce in the history of the global economy,” the commission declared.

China further stated that it would no longer respond to additional U.S. tariffs on Chinese exports, suggesting that any further American measures would be disregarded.

This latest development marks a deepening of the ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies, with global markets closely watching for the next move.
