The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Instituto Nacional
de Estadística y Geografía, NEGI) reported on Monday its latest survey showed
that consumer confidence in Mexico retreated from a 57-month high in December of
2023.
According to the report, Mexico’s consumer confidence index fell to 46.8
points in the final month of 2023 from 47.3 points in November, which was the
highest reading since February 2019 (48.5).
The deterioration
in the headline indicators was due to declines in the households’ assessments of the current
and future financial situation as well as those of the present and future state
of the country's economy. Meanwhile, households’ current possibility to make
purchases of durable goods was unchanged.
