Eurozone investor sentiment rose above forecasts in March

Figures from the Sentix showed that the eurozone investor sentiment rose again in March, recording its fifth consecutive monthly increase and reaching its highest level since April 2023.

The investor confidence index rose to -10.5 points from -12.9 points in February, while consensus estimates suggested an increase to -10.8 points. The poll of 1,267 investors was conducted between February 29 and March 2.

The economic expectations index rose by 3.2 points to -2.3 points. It was the sixth monthly increase in a row and the highest value since February 2022. Meanwhile, the current situation index increased to -18.5 points (the highest value since June 2023) from -20.0 points in February.

However, Sentix warned that one cannot speak of a typical spring revival. This is because Germany, as an economic heavyweight, remains the ghost driver and is hampering the recovery. The investor confidence index in Germany fell to - 27.9 points from -27.1 points in February. This was the third decline in a row. The economic expectations index fell by 0.3 points to -14.3 points. Meanwhile, the current situation index dropped to -40.5 points (the lowest value since July 2020) from -39.3 points in February.
