The UK's finance minister Jeremy Hunt stated on Wednesday that it is inevitable that the UK's GDP will be subdued while interest rates are doing their job to bring down inflation.
The official, however, added that the UK economy is now well-placed to start growing again following last month's announcement of big reductions in business taxation.
