Passenger car registrations in the European Union increased in November

Data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) showed that in November, the number of registrations of new passenger cars in the European Union rose by 6.7% per year, to 855,581 units, after an increase by 14.6% per year in October. This was the 16th consecutive monthly increase, boosted in part by a big jump in sales of fully electric cars. Meanwhile, from the beginning of 2023 (to November), the passenger car registrations grew by 15.7%, reaching nearly 10 million units, with all markets growing during this period, with the exception of Hungary.

The data also showed that in November the number of registrations of new passenger cars in Italy increased by 16.2% per year. A significant increase was also recorded in France (+14% per annum). Meanwhile, the German car market recorded a 5.7% decline.

ACEA said that in November, the battery electric car registrations jumped by 16.4% to 144.4 thousand units. The battery-electric car market share rose to 16.3% from 15% in November 2022. Hybrid-electric cars were ranked second with a 27.4% market share, while petrol cars maintained their lead at 32.7%.
