Freddie Mac reported on Thursday that the interest rate on a 30-year
fixed-rate mortgage in the U.S. fell to 6.61% in the week that ended December 28 from 6.67%
the week before. That was the lowest level since May.
The rate has decreased each week since late October, when it reached the
highest level in 22 years (7.79%). Over this period, the rate has dropped 1.18
percentage points.
