Germany's
Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Thursday the country’s
consumer price index (CPI) is estimated to edge up 0.1 per cent m-o-m in December after decreasing 0.4 per cent m-o-m in November. That would mark the first monthly uptick in the index in three
months.
On a y-o-y
basis, Germany’s CPI is seen to climb 3.7 per cent in December, following a 3.2 per cent jump in the
previous month. That
would be the first acceleration in annual inflation in six months.
Economists had predicted
inflation would rise by 0.1 per cent m-o-m and by 3.7 per cent y-o-y in December.
Meanwhile, the harmonized
index of consumer prices for Germany (HICP), which is calculated for European
purposes, is estimated to increase by 0.2 per cent m-o-m and to surge by 3.8
per cent y-o-y (the most since September). Economists had forecast a 0.3 per cent m-o-m gain and a 3.8
per cent y-o-y soar for December. In November,
the German HICP declined by 0.7 per cent m-o-m and rose by 2.3 per cent y-o-y.
