The European
Commission (EC) informed on Tuesday its
flash estimate revealed the consumer confidence indicator for the Eurozone fell
by 1.0 percentage point to -16.1 in January 2024 from an upwardly revised -15.1
(from -15.0) in the previous month. This represented the first decline in the
index in three months.
Economists had expected
the index to rise to -14.3 early this month.
Considering the
European Union (EU) as a whole, the consumer sentiment indicator decreased by 0.2 percentage points to -16.2 in January.
Given this month’s declines, both indicators
remained well below their long-term averages.
